High-Definition Volumetric Imaging acquires the study as a volume rather than a predetermined stack so that the dataset can be reconstructed at any slice thickness and in any plane after acquisition. If the initial read raises a question about a structure that was not the focus of the study, the answer is usually already sitting in the data.
Spatial resolution reaches approximately 0.09 mm. That is fine enough to characterize lesions that radiographs and ultrasound leave ambiguous: nasal and sinus disease, intracranial masses, small pancreatic tumors including insulinomas, urethral masses, adrenal disease, megaesophagus, hiatal hernia, spinal lesions, complex dental pathology, and orthopedic injuries where fracture configuration determines the repair.
The unit also performs fluoroscopy and digital radiology, which means a dynamic study such as a swallow assessment can be done on the same platform during the same anesthetic episode.
The typical offerings break down roughly as follows. Head CT runs without contrast and covers dentition and bony structures, including the sinuses. Brain CT includes contrast. Thorax and abdomen studies are performed with contrast, with the extent depending on patient size. Each includes radiology review.
